a much needed vent about work

3:31 p.m.

this is ridiculous. everyday, at 330, everyone in our customer service department leaves for the day except for maybe four people. but it always seems like there's only one person taking the calls. i don't understand why they let people have these schedules at our busiest time of the year. or why don't they just hire more temporary positions. they already fired like 3 people who take registrations. and now it just seems like there's hardly anybody left. it's really stressful when i get chewed out for keeping people on hold. but there's really nothing for me to do about it up here. i guess i could learn how to take registrations and help with general customer service questions. i mean, it's not like i haven't tried. but once the phones start ringing, i have to pick those up and i can't continue to help the person on the line. so what's the point?

it's not like our supervisors aren't aware of this. yesterday, everyone left early except for two people. at one point, there was only one person on the phone. two of the supervisors had to jump on the phones to assist the customer service calls. don't you think they would've realized by now that our schedules are pretty fucked up here, and the less people we have on the phones can pretty much effect all of our jobs. it's a domino effect. but i know that our new supervisor is just trying to make everyone happy and find a way to give everyone the schedule they want. she's been really cool about letting me go early, which to me is surprisingly rare, or letting me have the days off that i want. and i'm very thankful for that. and i think everyone should have that same opportunity. but aside from answering the phones and directing the calls, i'm pretty useless. these customer service representatives help people and they have knowledge and skills that are essential to what these parents are calling in for. they really don't need to talk to me. i just think that we need to get our priorities straight here. more people need to be here in the afternoon. maybe not all summer long, but at least i know that right now, and the past couple of weeks, it's been bothersome.
