san francisco, day one

7:36 p.m.

i've been trying to write an entry about this trip so far, but i really can't get anything down. it's not like i'm not having a great time, because i am. so i started to write like i just started this entry, and i was actually getting somewhere, but i'm on davemarr's ibook and i was trying to figure out how to use the "home" and "end" buttons, and somehow, i figured out the keyboard shortcut for the "back" button. so i lost that entry. which is okay, cuz i guess i wasn't really saying much that i haven't already said in this current paragraph.

i'm having a great time. i fell in love with this city today. we visited china town and i love it. there's not much but shops and restaurants, but i still like the little cultural pocket that exists here. i'm sure it's not much different from LA or from New York, but i find it extra special here, being as how much i am fascinated by the gold rush era of the 1800's and how chinese imigrants were connected to those days. so finally getting to experience san fran in person and see china town was a little homage to that era. i loved it.

first thing this morning, we say matrix: reloaded. i thought it was pretty cool. of course, the fight scenes were amazing and the effects, incredible. although the story seemed like it had a lot going on, and i really couldn't follow most of it. i'm sure if i watched it a second time. there were some things that did erk me a little bit, like this one big speech that morphius makes. anyway, i won't go into it. i'm not really in the mood to break down a movie right now.

we had lunch at this little italian place right before north beach, and that was cool. oh yeah, i bought this really cool knife from a store in chinatown for $9. the lady was all, "you like? ten dollah, it special." and i was like, " oh....it's...." and then she goes, "for you, nine dollah. nine dollah... it's special." and i was like, "sure." and i was pretty sure that she could go down more. but it was the whole princible that she brought it down a whole dollar without me even saying a word. i thought that was so cool that i just had to buy it.

anyway, people are starting to arrive here at davemarr's house for a party. for the most part this trip has been relaxing and low key. well, it's only day one. but, the point being, that it's totally what i needed. completely and utterly great! i needed to get away from everything down there in LA. i know i haven't really been saying much about what's going on in my life. but it just seems that lately, there's so much loss going on. a friend of my brother, his girlfriend's uncle, had passed away. missa's aunt just passed away, and i just partied with her last month. the following week of that party, she got sick, and now she's gone. two deaths in one week. neither of them i was very close to, but they effect the people close to me. it just seems like a lot of death and i really don't know how i feel about that anymore. so this trip is much needed. i needed to get away. and i have. i needed to relax. and i have.

more later. gotta go.
