3:30 p.m.

we interrupt your regularly scheduled program for this groundbreaking annoucnement:

i love this city

okay, that wasn't really groundbreaking. or a surprise. i'm sure all of you already know i feel this way, being that i up and moved here. but i spent today walking around with the intent of filling out applications. i got lost in the beauty.

walking down market street, i passed by two rows of people playing chess in front of the civic center. it was a great sight. people were standing around watching people play chess. i remember in amy tan's joy luck club, when the little chess genius girl would stop there and play chess with the old men. i wanted to stop and play, but i haven't played chess in a long time and i doubt i know any moves. in fact, i'm sure i'd break a rule or something. but it was cool to actually see in person. later, at the metreon, or the gardens behind it, i saw a bunch of empty tables with chessboards already etched into the top. i bet the people who put them on there intended that to be the new place to populate those chess players. i guess you can't beat a familiar setting and an old ratted cardboard chessboard.

tomorrow i go in to FedEx to fill out my application. afterwards, i call starbucks about a job, and later at 330, there's an open interview with california pizza kitchen right by my place. i really hope one or two of these jobs go through. i really need to start working soon. i've been talking to this guy chris online. he has a friend who owns this DJ tea house restaurant thing in hayes valley. he told me he was going to call him up and see if he could get me a job there.

people here in this city are amazing. everyone seems so helpful and courteous and full of random information. i was walking to get some lunch and this lady up from the train walked up with me. she just blurted out how so many people are commenting on her matt gonzales button, raving things good or bad. she mentioned that people don't see what he's really for. all they can is the democratic vs. republican standpoint. i agree with her. if people can see that people need better healthcare and support, they'd go for him. but the people just want to score points for their team. no one really sees what our needs are anymore. they just see someone's team and who they're associated with and go for whichever team they belong to.

anyway, that's as political i'll go for now. this city is amazing. most everyone i've met so far are pretty intelligent and active. it's great.
