waiting for my rocket to come

9:22 a.m.

so last night, april IMs me and tells me that jason mraz is playing at the house of blues. i don't know who he is, so i check out his site and download some songs. after hearing "curbside prophet," i was sold. he kind of reminds me of jude or duncan sheik (sorta, not really).

i ended up having a great time. jason mraz turned out to be better than i thought he would be on stage. he has an amazing voice, and has total control of it. this guy's a skinny little white guy with a funk band. i loved their sound, he kept switching from funk to reggae to acoustic song styles. he was having fun on stage and that's what matters.

the only downside to the event were the hundreds of orange county kids. total straight town. orange county straight town. which is the worse of its kind. (no offense OC str8 friends, you guys don't count) hehe. okay, i'm being a little judgemental. but it was kinda of annoying. i think i was having panic attacks. cuz it got kinda crowded. but i'm sure they were self-inflicted. these guys behind us were getting kind of drunk and rowdy. the football jock types. where they would scream at anything and everything. i thought they were just there to accompany their girlfriends, (you know, here i go again prejudging and all), but these tough jock type guys totally knew all his words and knew which songs were "the best he's ever done!!! wooooooooo!!! take it off, jason!!!!" yeah. that's how it was the whole night. after my buzz wore off. i was getting a little cranky.

but jason mraz totally made up for it with his last song of his encore. i don't know which song he played, but in the middle he went into "our house" and then sang it in spanish and then they did this fade into an african chant type thing and then into reggae. i wasn't disappointed.

seeing him on stage, just having a good time, totally makes me want to make getting my guitar out of that pawn shop my first priority. i really need to start playing again. i really need start writing songs again. i need to start writing more upbeat and fun songs. this whole experience has inspired me and motivated me to want to be on stage again. this time with a band. i really need to practice and sharpen my skills if i ever want that to be me. not exactly, of course. but something close to it. i miss playing for people. moving and touching people with words and music.

in due time, i suppose. in due time.

the opening act was great. tristan prettyman is her name. and she had a nice sound and a beautiful voice. i can't place who she reminds me, but i guess norah jones a little, but i still think it's more like someone else. regardless, i still really liked it and i bought a CD to bring home. she ended her set with her rendition of the cure's "just like heaven." i was in awe. i loved it.
